Side shade for awning usage I needed a shade to block the setting sun that the side of the awning on my deck misses when the sun gets low in the sky. This made eating dinner on the deck very difficult. I sized the shade it to the area I needed to block under the awning and cut about half of it off (I used a carpet cutter – this is tough stuff), and hemmed the cut side. Bought two of these sun shades for our backyard. We are very pleased since they cover more area than a regular table umbrella and it is dappled light. They look great. Note that they are not made of canvas, it is a nylon type material and there were some wrinkles out of the box. After a few days the wrinkles disappear and the material is probably better than canvas in the long run to dissipate moisture. Had a bridal shower in the backyard and they provided just the right amount of shade…
